THE OMBUDSMAN VISITED 40 PRIMARY SCHOOLS ACROSS THE STATE
Representatives of the Department for protection of rights of children and people with disabilities, according to the agenda of the Ombudsman for 2016 in cooperation with the regional offices of the Ombudsman in Tetovo, Kumanovo, Stip, Bitola, Kicevo and Strumica, visited 40 primary schools during April and May 2016, where he had talks with pupils in sixth and seventh grade. The meetings aimed to inform the children of their rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child and to discuss the problems they face, their knowledge of the mechanisms for protection of their rights as well as the promotion of the human rights through their school activities.
The Ombudsman prepared a questionnaire about the basic principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, i.e. the principle of the best interests of the child, the right to participation and the right to freedom from discrimination. Consequently, the analysis of the responses of about 1200 students who attend classes in Macedonian and Albanian language, will be included in special information on the knowledge of children's rights by the pupils, which shall be further provided.
