DEPUTY OMBUDSMAN MS. VASKA BAJRAMOVSKA-MUSTAFA PARTICIPATED AT INTERNATIONAL LAW CONGRESS
Deputy Ombudsman Ms. Vaska Bajramovska-Mustafa attended the International Law Congress held in Istanbul, Turkey, 17 – 19 October. The aim of this event was to discuss the work of the judiciary, the courts and the role of the institutions for protection of the citizens' rights in the legal system.
Speaking on “The role of the Ombudsman in protecting the rights of the refugees,” Ms. Bajramovska-Mustafa noted that the current challenges evoked by the refugee crisis and the dealing in Republic of Macedonia thereby is subject to continuous and close monitoring by the Ombudsman.
„Acting in accordance with our competencies as Ombudsman Institution, we perform actions in order to protect the rights and freedoms of the refugees, and as a national preventive mechanism we are closely monitoring their treatment in order to prevent torture in places where freedom of movement is limited, that is two Reception Centers and Temporary Transit Centers where the refugees are accommodated.” The solution for the refugee / migrant crisis requires specific measures and activities. In this respect the international community, especially the Member States of the European Union should harmonize their positions on particular solutions. What is essential is to make a plan with specific actions and precise deadlines for each Member-State of the European Union and the quota system which seems to be the most appropriate solution for equal distribution of migrants should commence operating.” This was part of the speech delivered by Ms. Bajramovska-Mustafa.
The International Law Congress, attended by representatives of 47 countries produced a Declaration with 11 recommendations.
