JOINT STATEMENT OF THE OMBUDSMEN OF THE REGION

In organization of the Central European Initiative (CEI), the Regional Cooperation Council and the European Union, on 10th of February the ombudsmen of the region met and decided to improve the mutual cooperation. The ombudsmen also adopted a joint statement.

The Ombudsmen of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo*, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Serbia hereby call upon the authorities of their countries to show greater concern, sensibility and consistence in dealing with issues related to the economic and social rights of citizens, as disrespect of these rights represents the greatest threat to human rights in general.

The Ombudsmen specially point out to the need to solve the existing problems through a broader social dialogue and full respect of the vital interests of most vulnerable groups.

The respect of human rights and rule of law is the imperative for all authorities in all situations, even more so when citizens express their dissatisfaction, which will be under the scrutiny of ombudsmen at all times.
