NINTH NATIONAL SEMINAR OF THE EUROPEAN NETWORK OF OMBUDSMEN
The Ninth National seminar of the European Network of Ombudsmen took place in Dublin from 15 to 17 September, focused on the role of the ombudsmen, the respect of the principle of good governance and the exercise of citizens’ rights with particular attention towards the new methods that the Ombudsman Institutions have in protection of citizens’ rights. The seminar was attended by Ms. Slavica Dimitrievska, a representative of the Office of the Macedonian Ombudsman.
The seminar was officially opened by the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Mr. Brendan Howlin, while as the former Ombudsman Mr. Nikiforos Diamandouros and the newly appointed European Ombudsman, Ms. Emily O’Reilly had their own speeches.
The seminar gave a comparative overview of the manner of work of several Ombudsman institutions as the ones of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Netherlands with a special focus on the mediation as a manner of resolving problems of the citizens.
