EIGHT NATIONAL SEMINAR OF THE EUROPEAN OMBUDSMEN NETWORK
"Harmonization of national legislations of the European countries with European regulations – reduction of differences between national and European policies and facilitation of access to the institutions for protection of citizens' rights, establishing of unified model for achievement and respect of civil rights, taking of active measures by states for respect of the principles of good administrative behavior and finding appropriate mechanisms and means for law enforcement".
These are some of the conclusions derived on the Eighth National Seminar of the European Ombudsmen Network held on theme: Law, Politics and the Ombudsmen Role after the Lisbon Treaty organized in partnership with the European Ombudsman, Mr. Nikiforos Diamandorus and Danish Ombudsman Mr. Hans Gameltolf Hansen, on which participated the Macedonian Ombudsman Mr. Ixhet Memeti.
At the seminar were presented role and work of the Ombudsmen in Europe, their relations with the parliaments and respect of the principle of independence and control over the administration. Ombudsmen stressed the need for their relatedness and communication, especially the importance of connection and existing communication between national with the European Ombudsman.
At the meeting were also exchanged views on the conditions and mechanisms in regard of respect and protection of citizen’s rights in different European countries and collaboration with other institutions in this sphere. Participants also emphasized the need for greater awareness and formal education of citizens about their rights and mechanisms for their respect and realization.
