New European Prison Rules
Prisons in the Europe in 2006 got the new practical codex – the European Prison Rules which gives basic directions on how the prisons should work and how the prison personnel should treat prisoners with aim of their easier and faster resocialization and reintegration in the community.
Last year the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers has adopted the new European Prison Rules (last version was brought in 1987) which has no obligatory aim such lows but the Council recommends it’s implementation in the national legislation. Basic aim of such codificated standards for prisons is insurance of adequate protection of prisoner’s rights and dignity for softening of the consequences of it’s separation from the community.
As an institution which according to the legal competences has authorities in this field, the Office of the Ombudsman translated new European Prison Rules and made it available on this web site.
