STUDENTS FROM SEVERAL SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN SKOPJE VISITED THE OMBUDSMAN OFFICE
Students from several secondary schools in Skopje, within the project "Street Law" implemented by the Youth Education Forum (MOF), visited the Office of the Ombudsman. In discussion with the Ombudsman, Mr. Ixhet Memeti they got acquainted with the work of the institution, particularly with its structure and responsibilities, as well as the manner of handling complaints lodged by the citizens.
Speaking about the importance of human rights, the Ombudsman especially stressed the role of the institution as an independent control machnizam whose main task is to protect citizens' rights, as well as monitoring the overall situation in that respect. The high school students were particularly interested in the way the Ombudsman manages procedures, as well as the opportunities available to protect the rights of citizens.
The Ombudsman Mr. Ixhet Memeti introduced the students with the mandate and work of the Ombudsman, National Preventive Mechanism and the new powers that the institution was granted with the latest amendments of the Law on the Ombudsman, such as opportunities to promote human freedoms and rights and the mandate of the Ombudsman as a friend of the court and the prosecution.
