DEPUTY OMBUDSMAN MS. VASKA BAJRAMOVSKA-MUSTAFA MET WITH PERSONS WITH CEREBRAL PARALYSIS
Deputy Ombudsman Ms. Vaska Bajramovska-Mustafa, responsible for the Department for protection of children rights and rights of persons with special needs met with persons with Cerebral Paralysis and the parents of children ill of Cerebral Paralysis. At the meeting Deputy Ms. Bajramovska-Mustafa, informed the present participants about the competences arising from the Law on Ombudsman and the mechanisms available to these persons for protection of their rights.
The persons with Cerebral Paralysis informed the Deputy Ombudsman about the problems they face on a daily basis. Namely, they emphasized having difficulties in exercising their rights in the area of health care and protection, education, access to services and to institutions, employment. In this context, they said that persons with Cerebral Paralysis must always be accompanied by someone who helps them move around, usually the parent who, pursuant the Law on Labor Relations uses the right to part-time job in which occasion his/her income gets reduced. Further on, in school children usually cannot attend those subjects that are held in classrooms on upper floors since the schools do not have elevators. Often these persons are in need of other orthopedic devices but the Health Insurance Fund recognizes them only the wheelchair.
Regarding the problems that fall within the competence of the Ombudsman, the Deputy advised the persons with Cerebral Paralysis to submit complaints with purpose of getting access to their rights.
