“ACHIEVING THE RIGHT TO EQUALITY AND PROTECTION FROM DISCRIMINATION” ROUND TABLE
“To face discrimination in our society is a challenge to everyone, starting with the institutions that are implementing the regulations- the public bodies, private bodies, and in particular for us, the institutions for human rights protection. To face this phenomenon it is not enough to only establish rules of behavior trough adopting relevant legal regulations”.
This was said by the Ombudsman Memeti when addressing the participants at the round table “Achieving the right to equality and protection from discrimination”, organized in Tetovo by the Ombudsman institution with a financial support by the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The Ombudsman emphasized that the fight against discrimination should be fought jointly by all institutions in order to point that the meaning of human rights is in the equality among people.
The deputy Ombudsman Mr. Dragi Celeski talked about the legal framework and the mechanisms for protection of discrimination. Mr. Agim Nuhiu, member of the Commission for protection of discrimination talked about the work and the experience of the commission, while as Ms. Jovana Trenchevska, counselor for gender equality in the Ministry for labor and social politics talked about the gender equality and equal possibilities in the Republic of Macedonia.
