PUBLIC DEBATE ON VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN AND AMONG THEM
“Republic of Macedonia has a legislation that regulates the children’s protection from any kind of violence, in the family but also in the school and in the institutions for children’s care. Hence, there is a further need for activities that will monitor the conditions in order to act preventively in incidents among children in and outside schools. There is also a need for joint work of all institutions but the parents too in appropriate development of the children in order to increase their tolerance i.e. to respect the diversities”.
This is only a part of the recommendations that came out of the round table on “Violence against children and among them”, held in EU Info Centre in the frames of the twinning project for support of the Ombudsman, financed by the IPA funds of the EU with the partnership of the Spanish National Ombudsman and the French Mediateur.
”The violence is a serious problem that endangers the healthy development of the children, their health and well being. Their basic rights are abused while as their life is at risk” said Ombudsman Memeti in his welcome speech.
According to him the education should be focused on the development of the children and the respect of their rights, as well as their preparation for a responsible life in a free society full of understanding, peace and tolerance, equality and friendship.
About the experience of the Ombudsman institution as well as about the violence among children talked Ms. Vaska Bajramovska Mustafa, State Counselor in the office of the Ombudsman, while as the experiences of the Ombudsman Institutions in France and Spain were presented by Ms. Geraldine Lyssandre and Ms. Teresa Salces.
